The Acuter SunTracker AZ mount with tripod is designed for fully autonomous solar observation with your solar telescope. Thanks to HelioFind™ technology, simply level the tripod and point the telescope anywhere to the left of the Sun: the mount levels itself automatically, calculates the Sun's altitude and azimuth using its integrated GPS and time data, and rotates clockwise until it finds it. Once detected by the solar sensor, the Sun is silently located and tracked, staying centred in the eyepiece's field of view.
HelioFind™ Technology: Automatic Solar Alignment and Tracking
At the heart of the Acuter SunTracker AZ is the HelioFind™ solar sensor with 4 photodiodes and integrated GPS, which calculates the Sun's position and altitude in real time. A 3-axis accelerometer ensures automatic levelling of the telescope, while continuous feedback from the solar sensor automatically corrects drift and compensates pointing. An 8-position selector lets you perfectly centre the Sun in the field of view, with pointing accuracy of up to 3 arcminutes after calibration and a resolution of 2,073,600 counts/revolution (0.625 arcseconds).
Main applications:
- Observing sunspots and surface detail with dedicated solar telescopes
- Solar eclipses: ideal for automatically following the Sun during an eclipse
- Planetary transits: observing Mercury and Venus crossing the solar disc
- Astro-tourism, educational centres and observatories: ready to use even for beginners
Compact, Portable and Low-Power Design
The SunTracker AZ is lightweight and quiet, with a load capacity of up to 4 kg and a standard 45 mm Vixen-style dovetail, plus a 3/8" photo mount for tripods and brackets. The included adjustable aluminium tripod features an accessory tray and a bubble level, with a height adjustable from 80.5 cm to 152 cm. The DC servo motor with a 6480 gear ratio offers two rotation speeds (16x and 1200x) and dual-axis tracking. Power is supplied by 8 AA batteries (not included) or an external 12V DC adapter.
Important Notice: Solar Telescopes Only
The Acuter SunTracker mount is designed exclusively for use with solar telescopes fitted with a safe, certified solar filter. Never point any other type of optical instrument at the Sun: observing the Sun without a suitable filter can cause immediate and irreversible eye damage, as well as damage to the instrument and fire risk.
