The Askar 140 APO is a high-performance apochromatic refractor featuring a 140 mm aperture, 980 mm focal length and a native f/7 focal ratio. Its large aperture provides outstanding light-gathering capability, higher resolution and excellent contrast, enabling the capture of finer details and fainter objects down to a limiting magnitude of 12.5.
The optical system uses an air-spaced APO triplet with a low-dispersion ED element to reduce chromatic aberration and deliver sharp stars, accurate colours and superior image quality. The multi-element design enhances correction at the cost of greater manufacturing complexity, highlighting the precision required in its construction.
Despite its large aperture, the Askar 140 APO is built with portability in mind. It measures only 735 mm when the dew shield is retracted and weighs 9.2 kg (or 10.9 kg including handle, rings and Losmandy plate). Each telescope features a unique identification ring.
The retractable dew shield with enlarged locking screws protects the objective from stray light. The lightweight tube rings feature easy thumb-screw operation, and their raised bases provide extra clearance. The handle, measuring 220 mm, includes an integrated slot for finder mounting.
The 300 mm Losmandy dovetail plate offers wide balancing travel, and the spacing between the rings can be adjusted thanks to the slotted handle. The rear retractable tube maintains mechanical rigidity and preserves optical alignment both extended and retracted.
The 3.5" rack-and-pinion focuser provides dual-speed control, a 10 cm focusing travel, CNC-machined construction, internal anti-reflection threading and matte finish to suppress stray light. Two finder bases are integrated for accessory flexibility. The 360° precision rotator with scale marks and a large locking screw allows accurate rotation even under heavy imaging loads.
The entire OTA is CNC-machined with anodised finishing, combining an ivory-white body with orange accents for a refined and modern appearance.
Two optional optical accessories are available:
- 1x Field Flattener – maintains the native f/7 ratio while flattening the field and correcting coma.
- 0.8x Reducer – reduces the focal ratio to f/5.6 for a wider field and shorter exposure times.
