The Askar 1.0x flattener is specifically engineered for the Askar 140 APO refractor and provides a fully corrected field without altering the telescope’s native focal ratio. Once installed, the system maintains an f/7 focal ratio, preserving the original optical performance of the instrument.
Its primary function is to correct field curvature and coma, significantly improving image quality toward the edges of the field. The result is a flatter image plane with finer, more pinpoint stars across the entire sensor, which is essential for astrophotography.
Advanced optical design and full-frame coverage
The Askar 1.0x flattener features a triplet optical design, optimized to deliver precise geometric and chromatic correction. It supports an image circle of up to 44 mm, making it suitable for full-frame sensors without mechanical vignetting.
Mechanical compatibility and imaging system integration
A standard 55 mm back focus measured from the M48 thread allows straightforward integration with most astronomical cameras and imaging accessories. The front M84x1 thread ensures a solid and accurate connection to the Askar 140 APO optical tube.
On the camera side, the flattener is supplied with multiple threaded adapters (M68x1, M54x0.75 and M48x0.75), providing flexibility when configuring the imaging train. An integrated M48x0.75 thread for 2" filters is also included, allowing direct filter installation without the need for additional adapters or spacers.
Precision mechanical construction
The flattener body is fully CNC-machined to ensure high mechanical precision and accurate optical alignment. Threaded metal caps on both ends protect the optical surfaces from dust when the accessory is not in use, helping to maintain consistent performance over time.
