Askar FMA180 PRO – The Sextuplet APO Refractor for Astrophotography
The Askar FMA180 PRO is a sextuplet APO refractor featuring dual ED glass elements, designed to deliver maximum performance in wide-field astrophotography and astronomical landscape photography. The 6-element optical system guarantees excellent chromatic correction and pinpoint stars to the very edge of the frame, even on full-frame sensors.
Sextuplet Optical System with Integrated Full-Frame Corrector
The PRO version introduces a completely redesigned optical system: 6 lenses with dual ED glass deliver superior correction of chromatic aberration and field curvature compared to the previous series. With the included full-frame F/4.5 corrector, the FMA180 PRO operates at a focal length of 180mm with an aperture of 40mm, becoming a compact, high-performance APO telephoto lens with an extended field of view.
The internal tube blackening and multi-layer anti-reflection coatings eliminate stray light and ghosting, delivering high-contrast, colour-accurate images even under difficult lighting conditions or in light-polluted environments.
PRO Features for Advanced Astrophotography
The new rear rotator allows sensor rotation without losing focus or affecting collimation — essential for correctly framing elongated objects such as galaxies and nebulae. The rear 2″ filter thread enables direct use of narrowband and broadband filters without additional adapters.
A working distance (backfocus) of 55mm with an M48 connection ensures full compatibility with all major astronomical cameras: DSLR, dedicated CMOS, CCD, and mirrorless — with or without T2 adapters.
Dual Use: Astrophotography and Landscape Telephoto
Thanks to its compact dimensions and light weight, the Askar FMA180 PRO is a true multi-purpose instrument: an excellent 180mm APO telephoto lens for terrestrial and landscape photography, and a powerful tool for wide-field deep-sky astrophotography.
