IR-Cut Filter for Astrophotography – Maximum Sharpness and Color Fidelity
The IR-Cut filter is an essential accessory for achieving crisp, high-contrast astrophotography with natural color rendering. CMOS and CCD sensors capture not only visible light but also infrared (IR) wavelengths, which can lead to bloated stars, halos, and unrealistic color tones if not filtered properly.
This filter blocks infrared radiation above 700 nm, allowing only visible light to reach the sensor, resulting in improved focus precision and true-to-life colors. It is especially recommended for:
- Color cameras (DSLR or CMOS) modified for H-alpha imaging
- Broadband astrophotography (stars, galaxies, reflection nebulae)
- Optics that are not IR-corrected
It is not required for narrowband imaging (e.g., H-alpha, OIII, SII) or if your camera already includes a built-in IR-cut filter. Not sure if you need one? Contact us — we're happy to help you find the right solution for your setup.
Main advantages:
- Eliminates IR-induced halos and reflections
- Prevents star bloating due to out-of-focus IR light
- Ensures accurate white balance and color reproduction
- Compatible with a wide range of telescopes and cameras
Maximize the performance of your optical system — a small filter can make the difference between a good image and an exceptional one.
