The Baader Neodymium Moon & Skyglow Filter with IR-Cut 1.25" (31.8 mm) is a telescope contrast filter designed to improve image quality during visual observation and astrophotography. By selectively reducing the effects of light pollution, it enhances contrast and colour fidelity while maintaining a natural and bright image.
The combination of neodymium glass and an integrated IR-cut filter makes this filter particularly effective with Newtonian and Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes. The result is higher contrast and improved detail visibility in planetary and deep-sky observations.
Enhanced contrast and natural colours
The Neodymium Moon & Skyglow filter selectively blocks specific wavelengths typically emitted by artificial lighting and urban skyglow. This helps darken the background sky while preserving natural colour balance and brightness differences.
The visual result is a neutral colour tone with improved brightness and contrast. Red and blue tones appear more pronounced, making fine details easier to detect during astronomical observation.
Optimised for observation and astrophotography
The integrated IR-Cut blocks out-of-focus infrared radiation. This feature is especially useful for astrophotography with modified DSLR cameras, producing sharper stars and more accurate image detail.
Baader’s proprietary Phantom Group Coating improves light transmission while maintaining excellent contrast and image clarity.

To maintain perfect glass flatness and optical accuracy even after the application of multiple coating layers, Baader carefully selects only high-quality optical glass. Each production stage is carefully controlled to ensure reliable optical performance and long-term durability.

The filter features a standard astronomical filter thread and can be combined with other compatible filters or optical accessories. The hardened coating also allows safe and easy cleaning when necessary.
