The Kowa Genesis XD 8.5x44 DCF is a high-performance binocular built around PROMINAR XD optics, designed to deliver outstanding image quality in varying light conditions. The large 44 mm objective and 5.2 mm exit pupil make it exceptionally bright at dawn and dusk — ideal for birdwatching in early morning or evening light, wildlife observation and forest excursions. The 8.5x magnification offers an excellent balance between observing power and image stability.
Manufactured in Japan with rigorous material selection, the Genesis XD 8.5x44 is Kowa’s premium field binocular for intensive use in any environmental condition.
XD Lenses and C3 Multi-layer Coating
The 44 mm objective lenses in XD (Extra-low Dispersion) glass are paired with Schmidt-Pechan prisms in BAk4 + SK15 glass with C3 dielectric multi-layer coating, achieving reflectivity above 99% in the 400–700 nm band. With a 44 mm aperture, this coating maximises luminance and colour fidelity while eliminating chromatic aberration across the entire field of view.
All optical surfaces receive multi-layer anti-reflection treatment for high contrast even in backlit conditions.
5.2 mm Exit Pupil and Low-light Performance
The 5.2 mm exit pupil delivers bright, clear images even in the most challenging lighting: dawn, dusk, dense woodland, overcast days. The real field of view of 7.0° (122 m at 1,000 m) provides a wide panorama for tracking birds in flight and moving animals.
The generous 18.3 mm eye relief is among the best in class, ensuring full-field comfort for spectacle wearers. The 1.7 m close-focus distance allows observation of insects and nearby vegetation.
Construction and Materials
The magnesium alloy chassis provides structural rigidity appropriate for a binocular of this size: 940 g in a 165×138×64 mm form factor, with a weight distribution designed for extended observation sessions. The armoured rubber coating ensures a secure grip and absorbs accidental impacts.
The central focus wheel operates with precision and smooth progression, suited to use with gloves or rapid field observation.
Waterproofing and Weather Resistance
The Genesis XD 8.5x44 is fully waterproof and nitrogen-filled to prevent internal fogging caused by temperature and humidity changes, making it suitable for any weather in any season.
