The Leica Trinovid Classic 8x40 is the universal model of the Trinovid Classic range: 8x with a 40 mm objective, aluminium chassis in classic black leather. The 8x40 format delivers the optimal balance of field of view, image stability and light gathering — making it the all-round Classic model of the range for every use case: from country walks to regattas, concerts to crepuscular birdwatching. The 5 mm exit pupil — the largest in the Trinovid Classic 40 mm series — delivers bright and comfortable images even in variable lighting conditions, with a twilight factor of 17.9. Like all Trinovid Classic models, the design takes inspiration from the Leica binoculars of the 1960s that accompanied the Apollo 11 mission, now updated with 21st-century optical technology.
5 mm exit pupil: the highest luminous flux in the Trinovid Classic 40 series
In the Trinovid Classic 40 mm series, exit pupil scales with magnification: 5.0 mm for the 8x, 4.0 mm for the 10x. The 8x40 is therefore the model with the highest luminous flux per eye in the range, with direct benefits in low-light conditions. The HDC® multi-layer coating maximises light transmission on all surfaces; the AquaDura® outer lens coating provides hydrophobic and oleophobic protection. The Schmidt-Pechan prism system delivers chromatic fidelity and sharpness across the full field of view.
6.9° field of view, 16 mm eye relief, ±3 dioptre correction
With a real field of view of 6.9° (120 m at 1,000 m), the Trinovid 8x40 offers a wide panorama for its format: ideal for tracking moving subjects and rapid target acquisition. The 16 mm eye relief and click-stop eyecups ensure viewing comfort even for spectacle wearers. ±3 dpt dioptre correction. Continuous interpupillary adjustment 55–75 mm. Minimum focus approx. 4 m.
Aluminium body, black leather, splash-resistant
The aluminium chassis provides lightness and long-term durability; the black leather covering protects against impacts, improves grip and provides the characteristic look of the Classic series. Splash-resistant. At ca. 605 g for 119×140×58 mm, compact and well-balanced for extended sessions. Made in Portugal. Supplied with: carrying strap, leather pouch, eyepiece caps, lens cloth.
