Evolution of the legendary CGEM for imaging and visual observation

The Celestron CGEM II is the modern update to the historic CGEM, featuring a contemporary, attractive design with significant mechanical and electronic improvements. With an 18 kg payload capacity and slew speeds of up to 5° per second, the CGEM II can support Schmidt-Cassegrain optical tubes up to 11" securely and vibration-free — ideal for both long-exposure imaging and high-magnification visual observation. Large ergonomic altitude and azimuth adjustment knobs facilitate quick polar alignment in the field.

DC Servo motors with optical encoders and PPEC

The CGEM II is equipped with low-cog DC Servo motors with integrated optical encoders, ensuring quiet and smooth operation capable of handling slight load imbalances without issues. The Permanent Periodic Error Correction (PPEC) allows training the mount to compensate for worm gear errors, retaining the corrections after power-off thanks to the RTC module with backup battery. All internal cabling is integrated into the mount head for a clean look and trouble-free remote operation.

All-Star Polar Alignment, extended meridian and 40,000-object database

Celestron's innovative All-Star Polar Alignment system allows accurate polar alignment using any bright star — even when the celestial pole is not visible — guiding the user step by step. The NexStar+ hand controller with integrated USB 2.0 port enables direct firmware updates via PC and ASCOM control. The database includes 40,000 objects with extended information on over 200 of them, plus 100 user-programmable objects. The meridian delay function allows uninterrupted imaging of objects near the meridian, tracking past the critical point for seamless imaging sessions.
