Belt drive and architecture for remote use
The Celestron CGX represents a decisive technological leap over the CGEM series, with mechanical, technological and ergonomic improvements. The belt drive on both axes ensures smooth tracking and total backlash-free performance even with loads exceeding 25 kg. The integrated optical sensors on both axes — Home sensors for returning to the reference position and Limit sensors for automatic protection — enable fully safe and unattended remote operation. The oversized base with adjustable latitude from 3° to 65° can be shifted to optimize the centre of gravity.
Field ergonomics and full connectivity
The integrated carry handles and robust 2" tripod legs make the CGX comfortable to transport for itinerant sessions. Connectivity includes an autoguider port, 2 auxiliary ports for WiFi via Sky Portal and StarSense (sold separately), a USB port for PC control via included software, and the NexStar+ hand controller with mini-USB connector. The internal RTC module retains alignment data after power-off. The dovetail saddle supports standard Vixen/CG-5 and Losmandy/CGE bars. Tracking up to 20° past the meridian on both sides.
PWI software and All-Star Polar Alignment
Included is the Celestron PWI control software, co-developed with PlaneWave Instruments, featuring multi-point pointing model for absolute precision in observatory configurations. The All-Star Polar Alignment procedure enables polar alignment on any bright star, even without visibility of the celestial pole.
