The Celestron set of 4 colour filters in 31.8mm (1.25″) is the complete solution for those who want to improve the visual and photographic quality of their Moon and planetary observations. The filters reduce glare, increase contrast, improve detail definition and resolution, and reduce eye fatigue during extended observation sessions.
The 4 Filters Included in the Set
The set includes four filters with complementary characteristics, identified by the Kodak Wratten series number engraved on the cells:
- Filter 21 – Orange: ideal for Mars observations (enhances contrast of polar caps and surface features), Jupiter and Saturn. Reduces blue light and brings out warm tones.
- Filter 80A – Blue: excellent for Jupiter (highlights equatorial bands and cloud structures) and Saturn. Reduces red light and improves contrast in atmospheric features.
- Filter 15 – Yellow: versatile for Mars, Jupiter and Saturn observations. Increases contrast of surface features and reduces blue and violet tones.
- Filter ND 96 0.3 – Neutral Density: reduces brightness by 50% without altering colours. Essential for full Moon observation and to reduce glare.
Stackable Black Anodised Aluminium Cells
The filters are mounted in high-quality black anodised aluminium cells, threaded on both sides with standard M 31.8mm male/female thread. This allows filters to be screwed together to create custom combinations: the effective transmission of the combination equals the product of the individual filter transmissions, enabling precise control of brightness and colour.
The high-quality plane-parallel glass with excellent homogeneity and the anti-reflection coating on both surfaces eliminate ghost images and light halos, ensuring maximum sharpness.
