Vai al moduloCelestron Origin 678C Camera – Sony Starvis 2 IMX678C Sensor
The Celestron Origin 678C is the latest color astronomy camera designed for the Celestron Origin SMART telescope. Equipped with the advanced Sony Starvis 2 IMX678C CMOS sensor with 8.4 megapixels, it delivers improved light sensitivity and higher resolution compared to the previous Origin 178C model.
With 2 μm square pixels, this upgraded sensor captures fine structural details and produces sharper, cleaner astronomical images. Its 16:9 wide image format is optimized for modern smartphone and tablet displays, providing a wider field of view for framing nebulae, galaxies, and star clusters.
Advanced performance with Sony Starvis 2 technology
The IMX678C sensor achieves an angular resolution of 1.2 arcseconds/pixel (compared to 1.5 arcseconds/pixel of the IMX178C), offering improved detail and clarity. Despite its smaller pixels, overall light sensitivity is higher, allowing better results with faint deep-sky objects.
Due to the increased pixel count, image files contain more data and result in higher detail. As a consequence, automatic processing within the Origin App may take slightly longer depending on the processing power of the connected mobile device.
Easy upgrade and full compatibility
Upgrading to the Origin 678C is quick and user-friendly. Simply remove the old camera, mount the new one using the included adapter and locking ring, and connect the USB cable. The Origin App will guide you through new calibration frames:
- Dark frame: reduces sensor noise
- Flat frame: corrects vignetting and uneven illumination
The previous Origin 178C camera can still be used with other telescopes thanks to its standard M42 (T-thread), making it ideal for high-resolution lunar and planetary imaging.
