The Celestron StarSense Explorer 70 LT is a refractor telescope designed to offer a new way to observe the night sky. It combines a classic optical design with a smartphone-assisted pointing system that makes finding celestial objects faster and more intuitive.
The new Celestron StarSense Explorer telescope series represents a significant change in how amateur astronomy can be practiced. Until now, alt-azimuth instruments were typically either fully manual or computerised (NexStar+). With the StarSense Explorer range, the observing workflow is rethought to make object location simple and immediate.
StarSense Explorer: Smartphone-Assisted Pointing
Forget complicated star maps, inaccurate planetarium apps, or expensive computerised mounts. With Celestron StarSense Explorer telescopes, locating celestial objects becomes straightforward: place your smartphone in the dedicated mount cradle and launch the StarSense Explorer app.
After aligning the smartphone with the telescope optics—a procedure that takes only a couple of minutes—you can choose from a list of visible targets. Once the object is selected, the app guides you on-screen while you manually move the telescope until the target (Moon, planet, galaxy, or nebula) is centred.
The StarSense Explorer app allows you to select an object from the list of those currently visible and then shows the direction you need to move. It provides progressively tighter guidance (zooming in) until you are on target. Then you simply observe through the telescope eyepiece. Unlike other systems, including standard astronomy apps, the patented StarSense Explorer system automatically recognises the telescope’s exact position in the sky using bright stars.
How Does Object Pointing Work?
Select the object you want to observe from the StarSense Explorer app list.

The StarSense Explorer app shows which direction to start moving the telescope.

Move the telescope following the guidance displayed in the app.

Object centred. You can begin observing.

Observing from City Skies
Celestron StarSense Explorer is compatible with most smartphones. By following the on-screen instructions, you can enjoy guided views of many of the night sky’s most interesting targets. Thanks to the telescope’s aperture, you can observe a wide range of objects, including the Moon and planets, as well as the Andromeda Galaxy, the Orion Nebula, and many star clusters visible from Earth.
Included Accessories
The package includes the mount and an adjustable tripod with an accessory tray, the optical tube, two eyepieces, a red-dot finder, and an erect-image diagonal.
