Celestron Universal T-Adapter 1.25" for DSLR and mirrorless cameras

The Celestron Universal T-Adapter 1.25" (item 93625) is a photographic adapter that connects a DSLR or mirrorless camera, without its lens, to any telescope, spotting scope or accessory fitted with a 31.8 mm (1.25") focuser for prime focus photography. The chrome barrel slides into the focuser like an ordinary eyepiece, while the T2 thread (M42x0.75 mm) on the opposite end accepts the T-ring made for your camera mount, sold separately.

How to mount it

  1. Screw the T-ring matching your camera system (Canon, Nikon, Sony, Micro 4/3 and others) onto the T2 thread of the adapter.
  2. Attach the camera, without its lens, to the T-ring.
  3. Slide the 1.25" barrel into the telescope focuser and tighten the thumbscrew.
  4. Focus with the telescope focuser, using live view to help.

What it is used for

  • Moon shots and short-exposure planetary and solar imaging (with a suitable filter)
  • Terrestrial photography with spotting scopes and telescopes: landscapes, wildlife and distant details
  • Use with a 1.25" Barlow lens, by inserting the adapter into its socket to increase magnification

Main features

  • Telescope side: 31.8 mm (1.25") chrome barrel
  • Camera side: T2 thread (M42x0.75 mm)
  • Material: anodized aluminum and chrome plating
  • Prime focus use, with the camera body mounted without a lens
  • Camera-specific T2 ring: not included

Compatibility and requirements

The adapter fits any instrument that accepts 1.25" accessories: refractors, reflectors, catadioptrics, spotting scopes, diagonals and eyepiece holders. Prime focus requires about 40 mm of backfocus: some telescopes, especially fast refractors and most Newtonians, may not have enough focuser travel to reach focus. In these cases Celestron recommends the Universal Barlow and T-Adapter 93640, which doubles the magnification and lets the telescope reach focus. Vignetting at the image edges may appear with full-frame cameras.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Celestron T-Adapter 93625 work with mirrorless cameras?

Yes, as long as you use the correct T2 ring for your mirrorless camera mount. The ring is not included in the package.

Do I need to remove the camera lens?

Yes. In prime focus the telescope acts as the telephoto lens, so the camera must be used without its lens.

Why can't I reach focus?

The telescope focuser may not have enough inward travel. Check the available backfocus before buying (about 40 mm is needed) or consider using a Barlow lens.

Is it suitable for a heavy camera?

The camera is carried by the focuser and held by a thumbscrew: check that it is tight and rebalance the telescope after mounting.
