Kowa Genesis XD 10.5x44 DCF: PROMINAR Binoculars for Long-distance Birdwatching

The Kowa Genesis XD 10.5x44 DCF is the highest-magnification model in the Genesis XD range: 10.5x with a 44 mm objective, designed for birdwatching in open landscapes, safaris and long-distance wildlife observation. The PROMINAR XD optical system incorporates four XD (Extra-low Dispersion) glass lenses — a technology normally reserved for fluorite binoculars — delivering chromatically neutral, aberration-free images with exceptional contrast across the entire field of view.

All optical components are manufactured in Japan from high-quality materials.

XD Lenses and C3 Multi-layer Coating

The 44 mm objective lenses in XD glass are paired with Schmidt-Pechan prisms in BAk4 + SK15 with C3 dielectric multi-layer coating, achieving reflectivity above 99% in the 400–700 nm band — surpassing silver or optically enhanced aluminium coatings. The result is a brighter, sharper and chromatically accurate field of view with a perfectly circular prism cut-off and no light loss at the edges.

All optical surfaces receive multi-layer anti-reflection treatment for high contrast even in backlit conditions.

10.5x Magnification and Field of View

With a real field of view of 6.2° (108 m at 1,000 m) and 10.5x magnification, the Genesis XD 10.5x44 is the ideal instrument for birdwatching in open areas, mountain hiking and long-distance wildlife observation. The exit pupil of 4.2 mm delivers clear images in normal lighting, while the 16 mm eye relief ensures comfortable viewing for spectacle wearers.

The 1.7 m close-focus distance allows near-field observation even at maximum magnification.

Construction, Ergonomics and KR Coating

The magnesium alloy chassis offers lightness and structural rigidity: 960 g in a 165×138×64 mm form factor, with a wide bridge, central hinge for interpupillary adjustment and thumb indentations for a secure, natural grip. The rubber armour is smooth over the optics and textured on the bridge for a firm hold even with wet hands.

All external surfaces of the eyepieces and objectives are treated with the Kowa Repelling (KR) coating, preventing the build-up of oils, liquids and dust. The focus wheel is knurled and free of mechanical play; the eyecups are twist-and-pull adjustable to three positions.

Waterproofing and Weather Resistance

The Genesis XD 10.5x44 is fully waterproof and nitrogen-purged to eliminate internal fogging caused by temperature changes or high humidity, and to prevent mould and condensation. It is suitable for use in any season and weather condition.
