A Herschel prism offers particularly high resolution for solar observation and sun photography.

  • Suitable for refractors only. For reflecting telescopes, use solar filters in front of the objective instead.
  • Careful handling is recommended. Do not use with low-cost telescopes containing plastic parts inside.
  • Telescopes pointed at the sun with a Herschel prism must always be supervised.

96% of sunlight passes through the prism and hits the ceramic disc, which converts it into heat. Therefore:

  • 2" prism suitable for objectives up to 150 mm diameter
  • 1.25" prism up to 120 mm
