The Sky-Watcher AZ-EQ5 GT SynScan is a next-generation equatorial and alt-azimuth GoTo mount designed for precision, lightness, and portability. Ideal for both astrophotography and visual observation, it features dual encoders, a belt-driven transmission, and hybrid stepper motors for smooth and accurate tracking. In alt-azimuth mode, it can carry two telescopes simultaneously, with a total payload of up to 30 kg.
With a head weight of only 7.7 kg and compact dimensions (37×32 cm), the AZ-EQ5 is lightweight and easy to transport. The sturdy steel tripod with an integrated half-pillar folds down to just 60 cm while maintaining excellent stability. Its retractable counterweight bar and foldable design make it perfect for astronomers looking for a high-performance, portable mount.
The mount includes a standard ST4 autoguider port and two DSLR control ports for Canon EOS cameras with remote shutter jack. It also features a built-in USB connection for direct PC control, eliminating the need for serial adapters. Compatible with planetarium software via the ASCOM platform, the AZ-EQ5 can be easily controlled through your preferred software.
The SynScan V4 hand controller provides an array of advanced features:
- Firmware upgradeable via Internet
- Database of over 42,000 deep-sky and solar system objects
- 2- or 3-star alignment and assisted polar alignment
- Permanent Periodic Error Correction (PPEC)
- Pointing accuracy up to 5 arcminutes (RMS)
- Dual firmware: EQ and AZ modes
- Compatible with GPS module
The index marker on the RA worm gear allows the mount to retain the current position and reuse the PEC data in future sessions. This PPEC (Permanent Periodic Error Correction) system ensures smooth and precise tracking, ideal for long-exposure astrophotography.
