The SkyWatcher Heritage 130/650 Flextube is a tabletop Dobson telescope with Newtonian optics, 130 mm aperture and 650 mm focal length (f/5), designed to be compact, portable and immediately ready for use. The collapsible truss tube (Flextube) reduces to roughly half its length for transport and opens to observing position in seconds, without any tools. The wooden base is silkscreen-printed with the names of great astronomers from history. Sold in a gift box, it is the ideal first telescope for adults and young astronomy enthusiasts.
Newtonian Optics with 130 mm Parabolic Primary Mirror
The 130 mm parabolic primary mirror delivers sharp, high-contrast images free from the spherical aberrations typical of spherical mirrors. At f/5, the Heritage 130/650 provides a wide real field of view, ideal for observing nebulae, star clusters and galaxies in deep sky, as well as solar system objects such as the Moon, Jupiter, Saturn and Mars. The resolving power of the 130 mm mirror allows fine details on the lunar surface and cloud bands on the giant planets to be distinguished. The aluminium reflective coating ensures high reflectivity and image brightness even under suburban sky conditions.
Flextube Technology: Compactness and Instant Readiness
SkyWatcher’s Flextube system uses a truss structure that allows the optical tube to collapse by approximately 50% in length for transport and storage, without dismounting the mirror or eyepiece. Once extended and locked, the tube maintains perfect optical collimation. This makes the Heritage 130 ideal for observers with limited space at home, or for trips to dark sites in the countryside or mountains, away from urban light pollution.
Wooden Dobson Base and Included Accessories
The altazimuth Dobson mount in silkscreen-printed plywood is the most intuitive way to point at the sky: simply push the tube in the desired direction. No counterweights, no motors and no alignment procedure are required. The telescope can be placed on any stable surface (table, wall, car bonnet) thanks to its compact base.
Included in the box:
- Super 25 mm eyepiece – 26x magnification, wide field, ideal for orientation and deep-sky objects
- Super 10 mm eyepiece – 65x magnification, for detail on the Moon and planets
- Red Dot Finder – for quick pointing at celestial objects
- Gift box – attractive packaging, perfect for birthdays, Christmas or special occasions
Both eyepieces use the 31.8 mm (1¼”) barrel, the most common format, compatible with any aftermarket eyepiece for future upgrades.
