The Sky-Watcher EQ8-R SynScan represents the new flagship of Sky-Watcher’s equatorial mounts, designed to deliver professional-grade performance and advanced connectivity for astrophotography and precise celestial tracking. This version includes the mount head only.
Sky-Watcher engineers have equipped the EQ8-R with comprehensive connectivity options to meet the demands of modern astronomers: it features 4 powered USB 3.0 ports, modular RJ10, RJ12, and RJ45 ports, 3 auxiliary power inputs, and a USB-B 3.0 port. The SynScan Version 5 hand controller allows full control of more than 42,900 celestial objects, with advanced features such as assisted polar alignment, permanent periodic error correction (PPEC), and automatic home position.
Mechanically, the EQ8-R offers a highly refined design with minimized periodic error and a belt-driven transmission on both axes, ensuring smooth motion, silent operation, and exceptional tracking precision. With a payload capacity of 50 kg and an ergonomically balanced construction, this mount is ideal for large optical setups. Two 10 kg counterweights are included in the package.
The mount is fully compatible with the SynScan Wi-Fi module and the SynScan Pro app for Windows, iOS, and Android. An index on the right ascension gear allows the control board to detect its position and apply permanent periodic error correction.
