The Sky-Watcher Evostar 100EDX is an apochromatic ED doublet refractor designed to deliver high performance for both visual observation and astrophotography. Thanks to its high-quality optics and precise mechanical construction, it represents a versatile instrument for demanding amateur astronomers.
The 100 mm aperture objective with a 700 mm focal length (f/7) uses Extra Low Dispersion OHARA FPL-53 glass, providing sharp, high-contrast images with chromatic aberration virtually eliminated. This makes the Evostar 100EDX suitable for advanced visual use as well as for imaging applications.
ED optics with OHARA FPL-53 glass
The use of FPL-53 ED glass significantly reduces visible chromatic aberrations. Extra Low Dispersion glass is characterized by very low chromatic dispersion and a reduced refractive index, ensuring accurate colour correction and high image definition.
With its 100 mm aperture, the Evostar 100EDX is particularly well suited for high-resolution observations of planets, the Moon, and double stars, as well as for deep-sky observation and imaging.
Astrophotography at native or reduced focal length
The optical tube can be used at its native focal length or reduced with the dedicated 0.92x flattener/reducer, resulting in a f/6.4 focal ratio. This option allows pinpoint stars across the entire field and an apochromatic image quality well suited for deep-sky astrophotography.
High-capacity 2.8” focuser
The enlarged 2.8” focuser is more robust and precise than the previous generation. It features a 1:11 dual-speed reduction, full 360° rotation, and high load capacity, ensuring stable and accurate focusing even with demanding imaging setups.
An external thread allows the use of third-party accessories or direct connection of the dedicated flattener/reducer.
Compact design and complete supply package
The upper carry handle allows ergonomic handling of the optical tube and easy storage in the custom aluminium hard case. The retractable dew shield reduces the tube length from 675 mm to 570 mm, minimizing overall size for transport and storage.
The Evostar 100EDX is supplied with tube rings and a Vixen/EQ5-style dovetail bar, an upper carry handle, and a custom-fitted aluminium hard case for safe transport and protection.
