SkyWatcher Newton 114 AZ-EQ Avant Telescope

The SkyWatcher Newton 114 AZ-EQ Avant is a reflector telescope designed for users seeking a solid and technically sound introduction to astronomical observation. The Newtonian optical tube features a 114 mm aperture and a 500 mm focal length, equipped with a parabolic primary mirror that ensures improved optical performance compared to entry-level instruments with spherical mirrors.

With a light-gathering power up to 360 times greater than the human eye, this telescope allows detailed observation of the brightest Solar System objects such as the Moon, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, as well as the brightest deep-sky objects including star clusters, nebulae and galaxies. Solar observation is possible only with the use of a suitable certified solar filter.

Newtonian 114/500 optics – a classic in amateur astronomy

The 114 mm Newtonian telescope has played a key role in amateur astronomy for decades. The 114 mm aperture—often simply referred to as “114” by observers—represents a well-balanced solution for those looking for good optical performance combined with manageable size and portability.

The 500 mm focal length makes this telescope suitable for both low and medium magnifications, providing versatility for a wide range of visual observing applications.

AZ-EQ Avant mount – alt-azimuth and equatorial configuration

The AZ-EQ Avant mount combines the ease of use of an alt-azimuth mount with the advantages of an equatorial mount. Switching between the two configurations takes only a few seconds, allowing the instrument to be quickly adapted to different observing needs.

In alt-azimuth mode, the mount is ideal for quick and intuitive observing sessions. In equatorial mode, the mount can be set to the observer’s latitude and roughly aligned with the north celestial pole. By operating the fine-motion control on the Right Ascension axis, objects can be kept centered in the field of view during observation.

With a load capacity of approximately 3 kg, the AZ-EQ Avant mount is designed for lightweight and compact optical tubes while still providing good rigidity, stability and smooth motion control.

Tripod and supplied accessories

The telescope is supplied with a height-adjustable aluminium tripod, featuring a half column and an accessory tray, designed to provide a good balance between stability and ease of transport.

Included in the package are 31.8 mm (1.25") eyepieces Super 25 mm and Super 10 mm, offering different magnifications, along with a red dot finder for quick and accurate object alignment.
