Sky-Watcher Newton Explorer 250/1200 PDS: large aperture for deep sky

The Sky-Watcher Newton Explorer 250/1200 PDS optical tube is a reflector with a 250mm aperture (10 inches) and 1200mm focal length (f/4.8), designed for those who want to tackle both visual observation and astrophotography with a substantial aperture, while maintaining an excellent price/performance ratio.

Ample light-gathering capacity

The large 250mm parabolic primary mirror offers remarkable light-gathering capacity, ideal for resolving star clusters, extended nebulae and faint galaxies with significant detail. Compared to 200mm models, it gathers around 56% more light, allowing you to perceive finer details even on low-brightness objects.

Dual-speed 1:10 Crayford focuser (PDS version)

Unlike the standard "P" version, the PDS model features a Crayford focuser with a 50.8mm eyepiece holder, 31.8mm reducer, and 1:10 micrometric focusing, essential for critical focusing precision both during high-magnification visual observation and astrophotography. For photographic use, pairing with the dedicated AOCORR coma corrector is recommended.

Recommended mounts

For visual use, a mount at least in the HEQ5 class is sufficient; for astrophotography, where precision and stability during long exposures are critical, we recommend an EQ6-R or AZ-EQ6-class mount.

Who it's for

The Explorer 250/1200 PDS is the ideal choice for the amateur astronomer wanting to step up to a larger aperture, both for visual observation of faint deep-sky objects and for taking the first steps into astrophotography with a dedicated coma corrector.

What's included

  • LET 28mm eyepiece (43x), 2" diameter (50.8mm)
  • 9x50 finderscope
  • Support rings and Vixen-style dovetail bar

Compatible with the AOCORR coma corrector (sold separately).
