The SkyWatcher Maksutov Skymax 200DX is an aplanatic catadioptric telescope designed to deliver high contrast, excellent resolution and a perfectly corrected flat field. With a 200 mm aperture and a 2000 mm focal length (f/10), it is a highly versatile instrument suitable for both visual observation and high-resolution astrophotography.
High-Contrast Optics for Detailed Observations
The Maksutov-Cassegrain optical design used in the Skymax 200DX provides pinpoint stars across the entire field of view and outstanding contrast. These characteristics make it particularly well suited for detailed observations of the Moon, planets and double stars. The small secondary obstruction contributes significantly to its excellent image definition.
Versatile Performance for Planetary and Deep-Sky Astronomy
The native f/10 focal ratio, lower than that of traditional Maksutov systems of similar aperture, allows the Skymax 200DX to perform effectively on deep-sky objects as well. When combined with the optional dedicated 0.7x focal reducer, the system operates at f/7 and becomes suitable for long-exposure deep-sky imaging, delivering a fully corrected image circle up to 44 mm.
Optimized for High-Resolution Astrophotography
With its long 2000 mm focal length, the Skymax 200DX is an excellent choice for lunar and planetary imaging. Using a 2x or 3x Barlow lens, optimal image scale and sampling can be achieved with virtually any planetary camera.
Thermal Management and Mechanical Reliability
To ensure faster thermal equilibrium and improved image stability, the optical tube is equipped with a rear-mounted cooling fan. Focusing is achieved via primary mirror movement, providing smooth and precise focus control even at high magnifications.
