The TeleVue Nagler 5mm Type 6 is one of the finest planetary and deep-sky eyepieces ever made: 7 elements in exotic glass with proprietary coatings, an 82° apparent field of view and a design optimised for fast telescopes from f/4 to f/6. At 5mm focal length on a 500mm system, it delivers 100× magnification with the sharpness and contrast that have made the Nagler series the absolute benchmark in astronomical eyepieces.

Al Nagler's “spacewalk” — 82° of total immersion

The Nagler concept was born from Al Nagler's ambition to recreate the naked-eye visual experience — but with much greater magnification. The 82° AFOV creates a fully immersive observing experience: no sense of looking down a tube, but of floating in space. The Type 6 is the most refined evolution of the Nagler design for short focal lengths: despite just 5mm, it maintains a 12mm eye relief and a compact profile comparable to the original 7mm Nagler — qualities that make it ideal also for spotting scopes via a 1.25" adapter.

Optimised for fast telescopes

The 7-element, 4-group design uses exotic glass types with proprietary TeleVue coatings to correct astigmatism, coma and field curvature even at fast focal ratios. The proprietary multi-layer anti-reflection coating ensures over 99% light transmission per surface with neutral colour and maximum contrast. Blackened lens edges eliminate stray internal reflections.

Construction and compatibility

The 1.25" (31.75mm) barrel features filter threads for standard astronomy filters, a safety undercut groove and a rubber grip. The eyecup is fold-down. All Type 6 eyepieces are parfocal — no refocusing needed when changing eyepieces. TeleVue performs a 100% full-field visual inspection on every single eyepiece produced.
