The ToupTek 294C Pro CMOS Color is a high-performance cooled color camera for astrophotography, designed for demanding deep-sky imaging. Built around the Sony IMX294 CMOS sensor, it combines high sensitivity, wide dynamic range, and extremely low read noise, making it ideal for capturing galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters even under low-light conditions.
Sony IMX294 Sensor with Large Pixels
The Sony IMX294CJK CMOS sensor features a 4/3” format with a diagonal of 23.2 mm and 4.63 μm pixel size. With a resolution of 4144 × 2822 pixels (11.7 MP), it allows wide-field astrophotography while preserving fine details, enabling entire galaxy clusters to be captured in a single frame.
Outstanding Low-Light Performance
Thanks to its large pixel architecture and a QE peak above 84%, the ToupTek 294C Pro delivers excellent results in low-light astrophotography. The very low read noise and advanced gain control ensure clean data with strong signal separation from the sky background.
Dual-Stage TEC Cooling System
The camera features a dual-stage Peltier cooling system capable of reaching up to -40°C below ambient temperature. This significantly reduces thermal noise during long exposures and ensures stable performance throughout extended imaging sessions.
High Full Well Capacity and Wide Dynamic Range
A key advantage of the ToupTek 294C Pro is its exceptionally high real Full Well Capacity of 63,700 electrons. Even bright stars remain unsaturated during long exposures. With a dynamic range up to 86.8 dB, the camera accurately reproduces both faint and bright structures within the same image.
USB 3.0 Connectivity and Integrated USB Hub
The USB 3.0 interface enables ultra-fast data transfer, even at full resolution, significantly reducing download times during focusing and acquisition. The integrated dual-port USB 2.0 hub allows direct connection of accessories such as a guide camera, filter wheel, or electronic focuser, simplifying cable management on the telescope.
DDR3 Buffer Memory and Anti-Dew System
An internal 512 MB DDR3 buffer prevents frame drops during high-speed data transfer. The built-in anti-dew system and AR-coated protective window ensure reliable operation even in humid observing conditions.
Compatibility and Backfocus Management
With a native backfocus of 17.5 mm, achieving the standard 55 mm backfocus is straightforward using the supplied 21 mm and 16.5 mm spacers. The camera connects via a T2 thread (M42x0.75), ensuring broad compatibility with astrophotography accessories.
