Carbon fiber tripod for harmonic and equatorial mounts

The ToupTek T-Forty is a carbon fiber tripod built for field astrophotography: easy to carry, yet rigid enough to hold today's compact harmonic mounts steadily. It weighs 1.89 kg (2.38 kg with accessories), measures 515 mm folded and has a safe working load of 50 kg. Height adjusts from 460 to 780 mm.

12-layer carbon fiber legs

The two-section legs are 39 mm (upper section) and 34 mm (lower section) in diameter, made from reinforced 12-layer carbon fiber tubes with 1.2 mm walls. The result is a structure that flexes very little, damps vibration and stays easy to carry, even in travel luggage.

CNC aluminum construction

The main frame, leg joints and mounting plate are made of CNC-machined aluminum alloy, with a partial internal cavity that saves weight without compromising strength.

Quick-release plate and dual-purpose center bolt

  • Quick-release plate with M6 holes, locking set screws, a 3/8" center thread and a positioning groove, to mount your mount in seconds
  • Retractable dual-purpose center bolt for 3/8" or M6 fixing, so it fits different mount systems
  • Reinforced triangular center brace that stiffens the whole assembly and prevents accidental leg collapse
  • Clearly visible lock/unlock indicators, handy for adjusting the legs in the dark
  • Replaceable stainless steel spikes for grip on grass, soil, gravel, concrete and asphalt
  • Counterweight stone bag to hang beneath the tripod for extra stability in wind and to hold small accessories

Compatible mounts

The T-Forty supports three M6 screws, the 3/8" center bolt and, for some iOptron models, direct M6 fixing to the frame. Mounts listed by the manufacturer include:

  • ZWO: AM3, AM5, AM5N, AM7
  • Sky-Watcher: Wave 100i, Wave 150i, AZ-GTi, SA-GTi
  • iOptron: HAE16, HAE18, HAE43, HEM15, HAZ31, HAZ46, HAZ71, CEM40, GEM45
  • WarpAstron: WD-17, WD-20, WD-20P
  • Proxisky: Ragdoll 17/20 (also 2025 version), Ragdoll 17/20 Pro, UMI 20S, UMI 17X, UMI 17S
  • RainbowAstro: RST-135, RST-135E, RST-150
  • AstroFrog: FG-17, FT-17
  • ClearSky: ST-14, ST-17, ST-20
  • MLAstro: SAL-33

If you use the M6 screws, check the recommended thread engagement depth for your mount: for Proxisky mounts, for example, it must be under 8 mm.

What's in the box

  • T-Forty carbon fiber tripod, 1 pc
  • Center brace, 1 pc
  • Counterweight stone bag, 1 pc
  • Stainless steel spikes, 3 pcs

Assembly and usage notes

  1. Extend the legs to the desired height and tighten all lock knobs.
  2. Seat the quick-release plate, with the mount already attached, in the locating slot and secure it.
  3. Slide the center brace onto the dual-purpose bolt and thread the 3/8"-16 stud into the plate.
  4. Tighten the brace knob until it fully supports all three legs.

Do not exceed the safe working load and do not use the tripod as a platform to stand or lean on. With heavy payloads, avoid fully extending all leg sections to keep rigidity; on uneven ground, use the stainless steel spikes. Before loading your gear, recheck all leg locks and confirm the center brace is installed correctly; stop using the tripod if you find cracks or impact marks on the carbon tubes.
