The ZWO ADC 1.25″ is an atmospheric dispersion corrector for visual observing and imaging of the Moon and planets. It compensates for the colour dispersion caused by the atmosphere, which is stronger when the target is low on the horizon, and reduces the blue and red fringes at the edges of the planetary disc for sharper, more detailed images.

How the ZWO ADC works

Two rotating prisms made of H-K9L optical glass (Schott BK7), with a surface accuracy of λ/10 at 632.8 nm and a deviation angle of 2°, generate dispersion opposite to that of the atmosphere. Moving the two levers in opposite directions takes the effect from zero to maximum. The built-in bubble level and the graduated scale with locking screw let you orient the corrector correctly and repeat your settings.

Key features

  • 1.25″ format: lower barrel that fits into the focuser and an upper adapter with brass compression ring for an eyepiece or camera
  • Female T2 threads (M42×0.75) at both ends, for direct connection of cameras and accessories
  • Visual and imaging use, with colour or monochrome planetary cameras
  • Aluminium body, weight approx. 200 g

Compatibility and use

It is installed between the camera (or eyepiece) and any Barlow lens, and suits all telescopes with a 1.25″ focuser or T2 connections. Because it lengthens the optical train, on some telescopes you may need to check that the focuser has enough travel; on Schmidt-Cassegrains, which focus by moving the primary mirror, this is not an issue. It is especially effective with colour cameras.
